Blended, Not Stepped

Fade Haircuts With a Smooth Blend

A good fade has no visible line. You should only see the hair get shorter.

A fade takes the hair from longer on top down to very short, or right to the skin, with no step in between. That blend is where the skill shows. We work through several clipper guards, then go back with detail trimmers to erase any line the eye can catch in the mirror.

Where the fade starts changes the whole look. A low fade sits just above the ear and stays subtle. A mid fade is the everyday favorite. A high or skin fade is bold and clean. We help you pick the one that suits your head shape and how you style the top.

Fade Gone Wrong

Fade Problems We Fix Every Week

If your last fade left you unhappy, it was probably one of these.

  1. A Hard Line in the Blend

A visible band means a guard was skipped. We blend it out step by step.

  2. Patchy Spots Near the Crown

Cowlicks need a different angle. Going over them the same way leaves holes.

  3. One Side Sits Higher

Uneven fades show up in photos. We match both sides before moving on.

  4. Edges That Went Too Far Back

A pushed-back hairline takes weeks to recover. We keep your natural line.

  5. The Fade Grew Out in a Week

Fades cut too tight for your hair type lose their shape almost right away.

Guard by Guard

Our Fade Haircut Process

Fades reward patience. Here is how we build one.

  1. Pick the Height

Low, mid, or high, and whether it goes down to skin or stops short.

  2. Set the Guideline

The first pass marks where the shortest length ends on your head.

  3. Blend Upward

We step through guards and lever positions until no line remains.

  4. Line It Up

Hairline, temples, and neckline get a clean edge to frame the fade.

Stephen Stanage

Fade cut

I’ve been trying to find a barber to go to since relocating to LA… I think I’ve found one! I had a great experience at Ocean Park Barbershop. He is meticulous, asks questions, and provides exceptional customer service. As a bonus, prices are comparable (or even beat) other local shops. I will be back!

Fade Questions

Fade Haircut FAQs

What is the difference between a low, mid, and high fade?

It comes down to where the short part ends. A low fade stays near the ear and neckline. A mid fade climbs to about the temple. A high fade goes up toward the top of the head, so more of the sides are cut very short.

What is a skin fade?

A skin fade, also called a bald fade, takes the shortest part right down to bare skin before blending up into longer hair. It gives the sharpest contrast and the cleanest look. It also shows regrowth sooner, so it needs more frequent visits.

How often should I get my fade redone?

Most fades look best for two to three weeks. Skin fades start to blur after about ten days. If you want to stretch the time between full cuts, a $20 lineup in between cleans up the edges and buys you another week or so.

Will a fade work with curly or thick hair?

Yes. Curly and thick hair often fade beautifully because the texture hides small changes in length. We adjust the guards and the direction we cut to match how your hair grows. Tell us if you've had patchy fades before so we can plan around it.

Can I get a fade as a walk-in?

You can. Walk-ins are welcome, and a fade is one of our most common walk-in requests. A fade takes the full 45 minutes, so on busy days there may be a wait. Booking online locks in your time.
