Just finished up getting my haircut with AJ here. Awesome attention to detail for a modern mullet. They clearly know their stuff and are super friendly. It would absolutely recommend, especially for more modern style haircuts. Also great value for the price.

Comb Over Haircuts in Santa Monica, CA
For when a standard cut is not what you have in mind. Polished comb overs, modern mullets, pompadours, and one-off styles cut to suit you.
Something a Little Different
Comb Overs and Specialty Cuts Shaped to You
Specialty cuts take a plan. We make one with you before the first pass.
The comb over is the gentleman's cut. Hair is left longer on top and swept to one side, with tidy sides that can be tapered or faded. Add a hard part, a thin shaved line, and the style holds its shape all day. It works in a suit and it works in a T-shirt.
Specialty cuts cover everything else that takes extra planning. Modern mullets, pompadours, slick backs, razor designs, and feminine short cuts all fall here. Bring a photo if you have one. We look at your hair type and growth pattern, then tell you honestly how close we can get.

Why Styles Fall Flat
Comb Over Mistakes We Help You Avoid
These styles are easy to get almost right. Almost is the problem.
-
A Part in the Wrong Place
Parting against your natural growth makes the hair fight you every morning.
-
Too Short on Top to Sweep
A comb over needs length up top, or it stands straight up instead.
-
Sides That Do Not Match the Top
Heavy sides under a slick top make the whole head look wider.
-
A Mullet With No Shape
A modern mullet needs texture and a clean transition, not just a long back.
-
A Style Your Hair Cannot Hold
Fine or very curly hair needs a different cut to reach the same look.

Ocean Park Barber is a great new addition to our neighborhood. The owner David is an amazing and gifted barber. He really knows what is going to look best on his clients. He has given me a great new look and really knows how to shape my goatee. I highly recommend him and I intend to be a repeat loyal customer. Peter Mullins
Comb Over Questions
Comb Over and Specialty Cut FAQs
What is a hard part?
A hard part is a thin line shaved into the hair where your part sits. It makes a comb over look sharper and keeps the part in the same place every day. The line grows back in a couple of weeks if you change your mind.
How long does my hair need to be for a comb over?
You want at least two to three inches on top so the hair can sweep to the side and stay there. If yours is shorter, we can shape the sides now and let the top grow in over your next visit or two.
Do you cut women's and girls' short hair?
Yes. Our barbers cut short styles for women and girls, including curly hair. One of our Google reviews is from a mom whose daughter got the soft, short cut she had been asking for. Call ahead if you'd like to talk it through first.
Can you do designs or patterns?
We can. Simple lines, parts, and shaved details are done with trimmers and a razor. Larger or more detailed designs take extra time, so mention it when you book or call the shop first so we set aside enough of the chair.
What product should I use on a comb over?
It depends on the finish you like. Pomade gives shine and a firm hold, while clay or paste keeps things matte and natural. Your barber will style your cut before you leave and show you how much to use and how to work it in.
